At 44, Alonso certainly doesn't look like he's ready to throw in the towel. Almost every weekend, he's asked how long he'll stay. His answer is always the same: long, because he's committed.
Alonso could even still be on the track at the age of 50, which would already represent a unique record in modern Formula 1:
"When I'm 50? I don't know what it will be like or how it will be then, so I'm leaving all doors open. This year I definitely wanted to race, and next year, because of the changing regulations, I also want to be on the starting line. I want to try out in 2026 and wanted to wait for Honda to arrive. Adrian Newey's arrival has given this whole project a huge plus and made the contract extension very attractive.
I will always be ready to help my team, no matter what role they need me in. If they want me behind the wheel, I'm there, age doesn't matter! If I feel motivated and fast enough, there are no obstacles. Otherwise, I'll be the first to raise my hand and say it's over!
It bothers me a little that the results on Sundays aren't what they used to be, but that doesn't diminish my motivation or my hunger for success. Quite the opposite! I'm calm and determined because this is a transitional period from which we can learn a lot. Now we're preparing to show our worth one day, when we have a championship-winning car. And that time will come. When the team is ready, I'll be here," Fernando Alonso said calmly.
