After Adrian Newey starts at Aston Martin Racing, the engine supplier Honda, already very well known and popular by the “magician”, joins the team a year later.
The CEO of Honda Racing Corporation believes Adrian Newey's role at Aston Martin means they will jointly build the best car in the field. Koji Watanabe believes that with Newey's arrival, Red Bull Racing's successes can be replicated and even surpassed, which would make them the best team in the world.
"It's very inspiring to see Aston Martin continually working to progress as a team. It's really pleasing to see all the investments in infrastructure and human capital, such as the construction of the modern wind tunnel and HQ, or the signing of Adrian Newey. I know Adrian; we've worked together before, and he's driven by an incredible passion; he wants to build fast cars. While they're working on the chassis, we'll be working on the engine. There will certainly be friction, and we have to be prepared for that. But if we can get past that and resolve it, then we'll be building the best car in the world. And when that happens, we'll be the best team in the world!"
