Gerhard Berger, the former Scuderia Ferrari star, hasn't tried to lift the burdens of his former team. Quite the opposite!
Berger believes that with the developments of recent years and the arrival of Lewis Hamilton this year, everything has come together for Ferrari to finally step out of its own shadow. The Austrian is convinced that this will be the year in which all of this happens:
"This season, I would put all my money on Ferrari. I couldn't say whether Lewis Hamilton or Charles Leclerc would be world champion, or whether the drivers or the constructors would win—but they will win. They will win the championship! In terms of the power unit and chassis, they are extremely strong; they probably have one of the strongest driver duos of all time, if not the strongest. Furthermore, with Hamilton, a kind of motivation has come to Maranello that is unparalleled. He needed a new impetus, and I think he will get that perfectly at Ferrari.
At Mercedes, he only occasionally got a taste of victory, and now he's in an environment where everyone is hungry for success. I'm sure he'll give it his best, but I fear he'll have a hard time keeping up with Leclerc's pace. What could help him a lot is his friendship with Frederic Vasseur. I think Hamilton isn't just a driver, he's also a leader who will be able to motivate the entire team and push them to victory!" - said Gerhard Berger, explaining why he considers the Italians the biggest favorites for 2025.
