Disgusting politics: Schumacher cannot become an honorary citizen

Eklige Politik: Schumacher kann kein Ehrenbürger werden

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

If it weren't for Michael Schumacher, probably no one in the world would know where Kerpen is on the map. But Schumacher is there, was there, and we hope he will continue to be there—something only the city administration, which isn't willing to grant him honorary citizenship, should understand.

The issue isn't new; both the experts and the fans have long been trying to exert pressure through various means to gain this recognition for the seven-time world champion. In vain... Local politicians have once again positioned themselves as some kind of Christmas surprise, and they couldn't have done it more disgustingly:

"There is no honorary rank in Kerpen. The introduction of the honorary rank and the associated honorary citizen status are entirely the responsibility of the city council," said Mayor Dieter Spürck.

"On March 19, 2024, the city unanimously decided to postpone the issue of appointing Michael Schumacher as an honorary citizen. The parliamentary groups and the independent members of parliament must first hold a group vote on whether we want to introduce such a title. Since then, no motion has been received on this matter," explained the "first" man in Kerpen, whose colleagues added the comments, "at the moment, it makes no sense" and "where does honorary citizenship begin and end?"

We don't need to comment on all this, you already know our opinion.
