With extraordinary news - thank God, this time in a positive context - the world-famous Belgian race track has made headlines.
King Philippe of Belgium has announced that this year the Kingdom of Belgium will issue a coin dedicated to one of the most famous racetracks in the world, if not the most famous.
It is common practice in euro area countries to issue two types of new 2-euro coins with different designs each year. The obverse of these coins honors an important theme relevant to the issuing country or to Europe.
In his announcement, King Philippe also details that the reverse of the "Spa-Francorchamps Euro" will feature the track, with two numbers on the left side: 7004 and 1921. The first obviously symbolizes the current track, the second the year of its opening, as that's when the first races were held there. An official design for the coin hasn't been released yet, but it's worth keeping an eye out: You could get a wonderful Formula 1 souvenir, and it's even free!
