Lewis Hamilton made an astonishing statement at the street parade organized by Ferrari in Milan. The Briton knows how to set off a rocket, and he'll likely receive both praise and criticism for this remark—even from his own people...
Seven world championship titles are all well and good, but they're no guarantee of anything, especially not for a team as hectic as Scuderia Ferrari. Moreover, making such a statement without any evidence is a stretch; it only holds up in statistics and on paper, and even then, only very strictly when projected onto Scuderia Ferrari. Hamilton's statement will likely be debated by many, but if we only consider the Reds' previous legends and their Ferrari achievements, one could easily place Niki Lauda and Clay Regazzoni, Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen, and, with a little goodwill, even Kimi and Sebastian Vettel here (or rather, ahead of them). Considering the overall F1 picture, this statement is quite banal...
Hamilton has obviously been very unsettled by the new environment; he is practically floating after the team change, and he is not afraid to emphasize this again and again, in ever more dramatic terms: "Charles and I are probably the best driver duo F1 has ever had," said Hamilton.
A great start. From here, you can take a long fall or soar straight into the sky . Time will tell what the machine spits out!
