Hamilton sorgt sich: "Der Motorsportsport ist zu teuer geworden"

Lewis Hamilton expressed his concern that most entry-level categories in motorsport have become almost unaffordable these days.

The seven-time world champion is also concerned that children are skipping school because of the sport:

"It's become incredibly expensive, even karting. I don't know exactly how much a season costs in the lowest categories, but I've heard you have to pay at least three times as much as when I started racing. If McLaren hadn't supported me back then and I hadn't signed a contract with Mercedes, I would never have been able to have such a career. It's very worrying how costs are rising.

And there's also a lot of talk about young kart drivers not going to school. Parents are betting everything on them, and the guys are constantly training and racing. Most won't make it to Formula 1, and they desperately need some civilian skills to draw on. This needs to be regulated; for example, tying a license to academic performance is a good idea. I think that would be the solution, because the current situation isn't good," Hamilton said.
