But if he hadn't, it wouldn't be surprising. But he did, and that's exactly why so many of us love and expect him to return to the field!
Liam Lawson, at Daniel Ricciardo's disadvantage, came close to a contract with Red Bull Racing and then won it. Yet the latter didn't react with any jealousy towards him at all; quite the opposite. He behaved like a man and a true sportsman!
"I used to talk to Daniel a lot, and I'll always have a lot of respect for the way he handled everything. From the beginning of all the hardships, from the first rumors to the moment it was confirmed that I was coming in his place, he never said a bad word about me or behind my back.
He never saw it as being about us, and he was right, because we don't decide our own destiny. It depended on the team, and he was extremely honest with me the whole time. And as soon as I signed my contract with Red Bull Racing, he was the first and only current or former driver to congratulate me. That says a lot about the kind of person he is!" Lawson praised his colleague very seriously.
