Although the season has not yet begun, there are increasing voices in the industry indicating that defending champion Red Bull Racing has a steep comeback ahead of it in the individual world championship.
Red Bull itself doesn't deny this; quite the opposite. Of course, one might now make nonsense comments about "there's a calming down" and so on, but the truth is that a characteristic emerged during testing. This does not point to Max Verstappen's success at the Australian Grand Prix. Helmut Marko also acknowledged this, emphasizing in an interview that while they have made progress compared to 2024, the others have made more:
"Currently, the clear favorite is McLaren. It became apparent during testing that they have become much stronger both on a single lap and in longer stints, not to mention tire wear. Nevertheless, their superiority cannot be described as alarming, especially given the weather conditions under which the first few kilometers were completed.
It would be difficult to predict the exact ranking, but I think there might even be four teams competing this year. I'm talking about the same four teams that dominated the field last year, only I'm anticipating tougher competition," said Helmut Marko.
And we would just add that we would not regret it at all if it happened!
