Mexico GP, FP1: Russell was the fastest

Mexiko GP, FP1: Russell war der Schnellste

Tamás Jancsovics |

Few laps, accidents, red flag interruptions, George Russell's success. In short, that's what happened in the first free practice session of the Mexican Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso, who has already recovered but is only watching from the pit lane, and five young drivers were on track for FP1. Oliver Bearman for Scuderia Ferrari, Robert Schwartzman for Stake, Felipe Drugovich for Aston Martin, Patricio O'Ward for McLaren, and Andrea Kimi Antonelli for Mercedes were able to get back in the car. Lap time had barely begun when a red flag was raised due to debris on the track. Antonelli managed to clear it, and luckily for the young Italian, the car was not damaged. The session had barely resumed when it had to be red-flagged again. This time, Bearman and Alexander Albon had a misunderstanding that ended in a serious accident. Albon switched off his car, but Ferrari also took a beating. What else happened during the session? Nothing particularly special; George Russell won this stage ahead of Carlos Sainz and Yuki Tsunoda.
