George Russell always thought that on the other side of the Mercedes pit box was the best driver in the world, against whom, if he managed to prove himself, he could one day become world champion.
Now Russell is here, determined to fulfill that promise himself. He's consistently beaten Lewis Hamilton in his own team for two seasons, so theoretically he only needs a competitive technique to fulfill his mission:
"I'm fully aware of the role assigned to me as the more experienced driver in the team. In 2025, many great young drivers will be coming to Formula 1, and at that point, you'll reach the point where, although you're not old yet, you're no longer young. My career has entered a new chapter, having completed the first phase, and I'm entering the next. When Lewis Hamilton started winning countless world championships, he was already older than me, and now it's up to me to follow suit. I feel I'm going in the right direction; I'm ready to take on the role assigned to me. The most important thing is to be as fast as possible, and that's how I feel," George Russell said indirectly about his goals.
