A Mercedes engineer explained to the New York Times how the seven-time world champion became so successful.
Andrew Shovlin believes that it was not work ethic, obsession, or the desire to improve that played the key role, but rather a pathological phobia of defeat!
"I don't think there's another driver like him. He has a completely unique outlook, and I've thoroughly enjoyed working with him. He's extremely committed to success and demands the same from everyone else. But what makes him truly great, what's his true superpower, is his almost pathological phobia of defeat. He has a terrible aversion to it, which is why he does everything he can to avoid it and constantly influences those around him to prevent it. I don't know of any other driver with such a strong mindset. Obviously, we all hate defeat, but the concern and the drive to do something about it puts Lewis Hamilton far above the rest," Shovlin said approvingly of her former driver.
