The bottom line and the most important thing is that if Max Verstappen wins his next race, there's no question he's the world champion. If he doesn't, the championship crowning could still take place in Las Vegas, or Lando Norris could avoid it...
We show how:
If Verstappen finishes second, Norris must win to maintain his mathematical chances.
If Verstappen finishes third, Norris will need to finish at least second. If the Red Bull driver also sets the fastest lap, that would still secure him the championship title.
If Verstappen finishes fourth, Norris needs at least third place to keep hope alive. If the Dutchman finishes fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, or ninth, Norris must overtake him by at least two positions. If Norris sets the fastest lap of the race, finishing one place ahead is enough to (theoretically) stay in the race. If Verstappen finishes tenth, Norris must finish in the top eight. Finally, if Verstappen doesn't score points, Norris would need to finish at least ninth, and of course, with the fastest lap.
Did we mention that we hate math?
