In recent weeks, Aston Martin's "allegedly" multi-billion-euro contract offer, which is being used to lure Max Verstappen, has caused quite a stir. Günther Steiner believes the moves will be successful, as the sum involved is unimaginable...
While there's currently no guarantee that Aston Martin will become a world-class team, there are signs pointing in that direction. Steiner believes Verstappen will accept the offer even if the Greens aren't competitive:
"One billion is a huge number. Even if Max were last, he'd immediately race for one billion. Not many teams can afford that, but Aston clearly can; they can offer a multi-billion salary. That's a high bar, an absolute record in F1 history, probably no one will ever break that. I mean, if that's real and not just speculation... I don't think it is. The reason I don't think it will happen is the current driver pair. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have contracts until 2026, so I think it's unlikely that Fernando will leave, and I also don't think Lawrence Stroll would sacrifice his own son on the altar of business. From 2027 onwards, however, the situation will be very different..." Steiner left the door open.
