There are great drivers, there are fast drivers, and there's Max Verstappen. The latter has skills that the first two camps, with their combined talent, can't match.
Especially when the competition is tough. That's what Giedo van der Garde says, who, as a fellow countryman and competitor, knows Verstappen's career firsthand. And he says it's not worth betting on anything else...
"When the moment comes again and there's tough, real competition, you just know the flag will fly for Max because he has that advantage. He won't do the favor of making mistakes at crucial moments, as Lando Norris has shown. If the latter wants to be a real challenger, he still needs to get much, much stronger, especially mentally. Just look at 2024, when Norris had a competitive car for much longer than Verstappen. Did he take advantage of it? No, because he made a lot of mistakes. All of that happened because Max simply overran him in critical situations... If Norris has the car this year and the team is behind him as a unit and makes fewer mistakes in crucial moments, then he could have a chance at the world championship title. In any case, I wouldn't bet a lot of money on Max Verstappen..." - said Van der Garde.
