The latest weather reports indicate there's a serious chance we'll see a rainy race on Sunday. A strong and widespread thunderstorm zone is expected to develop in Melbourne and the surrounding area by then, promising significant rainfall.
This would mean something that hasn't happened since 2010: the Australian Grand Prix hasn't been held in rainy conditions for so long, when Jenson Button celebrated an unforgettable victory with McLaren.
In 2013, there was also heavy rainfall on the track, but the storm cancelled qualifying, which had to be postponed to Sunday morning due to the unusable asphalt.
This year, the Grand Prix schedule is threatened by rain, and since we've already talked about 2010 and McLaren, the latter has a better chance of success now as well. And it would be the icing on the cake if the rain arrived earlier and also affected Saturday, as this could put the currently much-criticized Mohammed ben Sulayem under considerable pressure. If the FIA starts messing up the eagerly awaited first race, it would further weaken the president's already weak position...
